How the Time Zone Converter Works

Remote teams, international travelers and event organizers use this tool to see the same moment in time across multiple cities at once, and to spot which time zones fall inside comfortable working hours for a call or meeting.

Conversion Method

Your source date and time is treated as a single absolute instant. For every target timezone, that same instant is re-formatted using the IANA timezone database (via the browser's Intl.DateTimeFormat API), which automatically accounts for each region's UTC offset and current daylight saving rules — no manual offset math required.

Meeting Planner Ratings

Each target timezone's local hour is checked against a simple working-hours model: 9 AM–5 PM is rated "Perfect Time", 7–9 AM and 5–8 PM are "Good Time", 6–7 AM and 8–11 PM are "Inconvenient", and 11 PM–6 AM is "Night Time" — helping you quickly spot a slot that works reasonably well for everyone.

Time Zone Converter FAQs

How does the converter handle daylight saving time?

It uses the browser's built-in Intl.DateTimeFormat API with each region's official IANA timezone identifier (like America/New_York or Europe/London), which automatically applies the correct daylight saving adjustment for the specific date you're converting.

What do the meeting planner ratings mean?

'Perfect Time' means the local hour falls in standard business hours (9 AM-5 PM). 'Good Time' covers early morning or early evening (7-9 AM, 5-8 PM). 'Inconvenient' covers very early or late hours (6-7 AM, 8-11 PM), and 'Night Time' (11 PM-6 AM) is flagged as best avoided.

Why do some timezones show a sun icon next to the offset?

The sun icon indicates that timezone is currently observing daylight saving time, which shifts the UTC offset forward by an hour compared to standard time for part of the year.

Can I compare more than one target timezone at a time?

Yes, you can add multiple target timezones and see all of them converted simultaneously, plus a chart comparing what hour of the day it currently is across all of them.

Is the World Clock showing live, updating time?

Yes, the World Clock tab recalculates each city's time using your device's current time whenever you view it, giving you an always-current snapshot across all listed regions.
