Supported Operations

  • Trigonometry: sin, cos, tan and their inverses (asin, acos, atan), evaluated in either degree or radian mode
  • Logarithms: log() for base-10 and ln() for natural log (base e)
  • Roots & powers: sqrt(), cbrt(), and ^ for exponents (e.g. 2^10)
  • Factorial: n! computed iteratively, capped at 170! to avoid numeric overflow
  • Constants: π (pi) and e (Euler's number) can be typed directly into any expression

Degree vs Radian Mode

In Degree mode, angles you enter for sin/cos/tan are converted to radians internally (angle × π/180) before evaluation, and results from inverse trig functions are converted back to degrees. In Radian mode, angles are used exactly as entered — this matters because sin(30) means something very different in each mode.

What's the difference between DEG and RAD mode?

DEG mode treats the numbers you enter into sin, cos and tan as degrees (e.g. sin(90) = 1), converting them to radians internally before calculating. RAD mode treats the same numbers as radians directly. Always match the mode to the units your problem uses, since sin(90) in radian mode gives a very different result than in degree mode.

What is the difference between log() and ln()?

log() computes the base-10 logarithm (log₁₀), commonly used in science and engineering, while ln() computes the natural logarithm (base e ≈ 2.71828), which is standard in calculus and continuous growth problems.

How large a factorial can I calculate?

Factorials are computed up to 170!; beyond that the result exceeds the maximum value a standard floating-point number can represent, so the calculator returns Infinity to avoid an inaccurate answer.

Can I graph any function I type?

The Function Graph tab evaluates your expression at 200 points between x = -10 and x = 10, using the same expression engine as the calculator, and plots any point where the result is a finite real number. Points where the function is undefined (like 1/0) are simply skipped.

How do I use pi and e in an expression?

Type 'pi' or the π symbol for pi, and 'e' for Euler's number, directly inside any expression, such as '2*pi*5' for the circumference of a circle with radius 5.
