How the College Fees Planner Works
This planner projects your total cost of a course - tuition, hostel, mess and other expenses - across every year, applies an annual fee increase, subtracts any scholarship, and (optionally) works out an education loan repayment plan. It is different from the Scholarship Eligibility Checker, which only tells you which scholarships you may qualify for.
Calculation Method
- Each year's tuition, hostel, mess and other fees are inflated by the annual increase percentage compounding year over year.
- Yearly scholarship amount is subtracted to get the net payable amount for that year.
- All years are summed to get the total course cost and net payable total.
- If a loan is required, simple interest accrues during the moratorium period (course duration + 1 year), then the total is repaid via EMI over the remaining tenure using the standard EMI formula: EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] ÷ [(1+R)^N − 1].
- The net total is also divided by the number of months in the course to estimate an average monthly budget.
College Fees Planner - Frequently Asked Questions
How does the college fees planner account for rising fees?
It applies your chosen annual fee increase percentage (default 5%) compounded every year, so later years automatically show higher tuition, hostel and mess fees than the first year.
How is the education loan EMI calculated?
Interest accrues as simple interest during the moratorium period (course duration plus one year), and the resulting amount is then repaid as an EMI over the remaining tenure using the standard reducing-balance EMI formula.
What is included in the monthly budget estimate?
The average monthly expense is your net total course cost divided by the total number of months, further broken down into tuition, hostel, mess, books, transport, personal and miscellaneous categories.
Does this planner include scholarships?
Yes, you can enter an expected scholarship amount per year, which is deducted from each year's fees before calculating the net payable amount and loan requirement.
Is this the same as the Scholarship Eligibility Checker?
No. This tool plans your overall budget and loan needs assuming you already know your scholarship amount. To find out which scholarships you may actually qualify for, use the separate Scholarship Eligibility Checker.
