Material Breakdown

How We Calculate Brick Requirements

Step 1: Wall Area & Volume

We calculate the wall area (Length × Height) and volume considering the thickness. Current wall: 10' × 10' × 4.5" = 100 sq ft

Wall Area = 10 × 10 = 100 sq ft

Step 2: Brick Count Calculation

Using Standard (9"×4.5"×3") bricks with 0.5" mortar joints. For 4.5" walls, we use single layer.

Brick + Mortar Area = (9 + 0.5) × (4.5 + 0.5) sq inches

Step 3: Mortar Requirements

Mortar volume = Wall volume - Brick volume. Using 1:6 cement:sand ratio for mortar.

  • Mortar Volume: 6.98 cubic feet
  • Cement: 1 part = 2 bags (50kg each)
  • Sand: 6 parts = 8 cubic feet

Key Assumptions

  • • Standard brick: 9" × 4.5" × 3"
  • • Modular brick: 7.5" × 3.5" × 2.5"
  • • 9" wall uses double layer of bricks
  • • Mortar ratio: 1:6 (cement:sand)
  • • Dry volume factor: 1.33 for mortar
  • • Cement density: 1440 kg/m³

Pro Tips

Brick Selection:

  • • Standard bricks for load-bearing walls
  • • Modular bricks for lightweight construction
  • • Check local brick availability and sizes
  • • Consider brick quality and water absorption

Construction Tips:

  • • Maintain consistent mortar thickness
  • • Soak bricks before laying
  • • Check wall alignment regularly
  • • Allow proper curing time
